27 New Orleans Fitness and Fat Loss Tips

January 1, 2010

It’s New Year’s Day in New Orleans, and you have a clean slate.

cleanslate

I don’t know if you are one to make New Year’s Resolutions or not, but either way you’re probably thinking about how you can become fitter, healthier and happier than you are right now.

These 27 New Orleans Fitness and Fat Loss Tips will get you on the right track for this New Year:

1. Visualize the accomplishment of your goals each and every day. Experience the taste of success and feel that sweet satisfaction.

2. Push the intensity of your workouts. Don’t kill time, burn calories by maintaining a challenging intensity.

3. Use smaller plates at home. This effortlessly reduces calorie intake and promotes weight loss.

4. Build accountability into your workouts so that you resist the temptation to take days off. The best way to ensure accountability is to work with a personal trainer either one-on-one or in a group training setting.

5. Believe in yourself. Know with conviction that you CAN accomplish your goals.

6. Drink water throughout your day. Do this by carrying a water bottle and opting for water rather than calorie-filled beverages. This simple action is extremely beneficial.

7. Maintain your metabolism by eating a healthy snack or meal every three hours. This food should be unprocessed, low in fat and high in fiber.

8. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

9. Incorporate High Intensity Interval Training into your cardio workouts by performing bursts of high intensity rather than exercising at a single steady pace.

10. It’s not about will-power, it’s about want-power. You have to want it.

11. Do not eat processed foods. These items are high in empty calories and contain a plethora of chemicals that are harmful to your health.

12. Stop talking about losing weight. Start doing it.

13. Fat contains twice the caloric density of carbohydrates and protein, so limit the amount that you consume. Fill your diet with lean protein and carbohydrates from plants and whole grains.

14. Be wary of products that are labeled as ‘health food’. Always read the nutrition labels.

15. Find a workout partner who is in better shape than you, or better yet work with a personal trainer to guarantee dramatic results.

16. Make a habit out of reading nutrition labels. Avoid items that are high in fat and carbohydrates.

17. Destroy negative self talk.

18. Avoid the trap of high-calorie beverages after your workouts.

19. Be consistent with your workouts. Exercise three to four times each week.

20. Expect more of yourself.

21. High fructose corn syrup should not be in your diet. It is high in calories and will quickly derail your weight loss efforts.

22. Challenge your body with each workout. Use different weights, do different exercises and break through plateaus.

23. Eat lots of whole plant foods. Vegetables, fruits and whole grains are filled with fiber and antioxidants, vital for your good health.

24. Do your cardiovascular exercise after weight training to ensure more fat burn. Your stored sugars will be depleted during the weight training then your body will rely on fat stores to get you through the cardio workout.

25. Set specific, measurable goals.

26. Start each day with a healthy breakfast. This important meal should be a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat to get your metabolism going strong.

27. You deserve better…go get it.

After writing these tips, I realized how powerful and inspiring they are. Print this list and place it somewhere that you’ll see often – this will keep you motivated and pumped up to accomplish your goals.

If your New Year’s Resolution has to do with losing weight and getting into great shape (and whose isn’t?) then guarantee your success by working with a fitness expert who can guide you to success.

I’d love to team up with you - together we will transform your body in 2010 with one of my Boot Camp programs in New Orleans, Metairie, and Lakeview!

How to Find The Right New Orleans Personal Trainer

December 27, 2009

How to Find The Right New Orleans Personal Trainer
This is a Fitness Guest Post by Christian Aguirre

New Orleans Personal Trainer
Getting fit for the new year is in the conscious minds of most New Orleans residents.

Most of you will probably start a new fitness program at the beginning of the year.

Some of you may join a gym, begin a new nutrition plan, or maybe find your local personal trainer in New Orleans.

A personal trainer job is to get you back into shape, keeping you motivated, and customizing a workout program for your fitness goals.
But how do you pick personal trainer in New Orleans?

confused in New Orleans
4 easy tips in finding a New Orleans personal trainer:

1. Make sure and interview several different personal trainers in New Orleans to make sure they are the right fit for you. This is very important that your personality meshes well with theirs . The reason being is because you are going to spend 2-3 days a week for at least 3-6 months with this person. You don’t want to be stuck for 3-6 months with someone you don’t like. So make sure your personality is compatible with theirs.

2. Find out what kind of national certifications or college degrees they hold. You want to make sure that you are working with an educated trainer and not someone who just read a couple of muscle magazines.

3 Interview their clients. Find out how long each client has been working with that trainer, what kind of results have they seen, and what their workouts are like. Chances are if they are good their clients would have been with them for a long period of time, have seen significant results, and love their workouts. Clients won’t lie to you if they thought their trainer wasn’t good.

4 Check for Tons of Testimonials and Success stories! Proof is in the pudding!  Make sure that the Personal Trainers website is loaded with videos, pics, and written testimonials from their clients..This is something that Jonas has really done to prove he has the Best Fitness Boot Camp Program in New Orleans for fast fat loss! Could These Foods in New Orleans Could be Making you Fat?

Could These Foods in New Orleans Could be Making you Fat?

foods-making-you-fat

It’s easy to let yourself be fooled into thinking the things you eat are healthy. Foods dressed in crafty packaging lead you to believe they will help you lose weight.

But do they?

The truth is that most of the time the only thing special about the so-called healthy food product is the clever marketing. Have you been fooled by the following foods?

So-Called Healthy Food #1: SALAD

taco_salad
Who doesn’t get a self-righteous feeling when ordering a salad, right? Salads are healthy, and salads equal weight loss. Unfortunately, not anymore.

Salad in and of itself is a wonderful, healthy food. It is filled with nutrients and untouched by artificial additives. If only we left it at that.

Most salads on the menu today are loaded with fat laden extras. Croutons, tortilla strips, nuts, and even fried chicken (not the best source of protein). And let’s not forget the salad dressing.

While you know that salad dressing isn’t very healthy, you may not be aware of the staggering number of fat calorie packed in these dressings. Most people add between a quarter to a half a cup of dressing to their salad, and with the average creamy salad dressing weighing in at 8-12 grams of fat per tablespoon, you can see how an innocent collection of greens can quickly turn into a spare tire.

So-Called Healthy Food #2: 100 CALORIE PACKS

100cal
In the snack section of your local grocery store you’ve probably seen the attractively packaged “100 Calorie Packs.” These light and airy snack packs send a subtle message that they are healthy and in line with your desire to drop the fat.

I mean, how harmful can they be? Let’s take a look at the snacks within the package.

Here are the most popular:

  • Oreo cookies
  • Ritz snack mix
  • Planter’s peanut butter cookies
  • Cheese Nips crackers
  • Chips Ahoy cookies
  • Shortbread cookie

Hmmm, that list sounds like junk food-doesn’t it? These items are high in sugar, salt and fat, and they don’t contain a grain of nutritional value. And let’s be honest, most people don’t eat just one pack…

So-Called Healthy Food #3: CEREAL

Can a box of cereal help you lose weight? That’s the message being sent out by a handful of cereal brands, namely Special K. This cereal manufacturer has gone so far as to create the Special K Challenge, a program which claims to help drop 6 pounds in 2 weeks. The message that most consumers take away from the cereal commercials is “If I eat this brand of cereal then I will lose weight.”

Wait, don’t grab a bowl of your favorite cereal along with your skinny jeans just yet.cnutrients1

It’s dangerous to think that any food item will promote weight loss, especially a food item that is high in simple carbohydrates. In the fine print you will see that the cereal claims to help lose weight when incorporated with a very low calorie diet, and that the cereal itself has no weight loss inducing power.

Making the Healthy Choice
As a rule of thumb ignore the bold claims on food packaging-the information you really need is listed on the nutrition label. Finding healthy food is simple when you use the following guidelines.

  • Eat Fresh: The healthiest food in the world is fresh, unprocessed whole foods. This includes fresh vegetables and fruit, whole grains and legumes, and raw seeds and nuts. These fresh foods supply your body with vitamins, minerals and enzymes that are priceless to your health. When it comes to meat, poultry and dairy choose products that are grass fed and hormone and antibiotic free.
  • Set Limits: Let’s be honest. Just because something is edible doesn’t mean you should eat it. A key to healthy eating is to identify which items to limit or even eliminate from your diet.

  • Cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends that you limit your intake of cholesterol from food to less than 300 milligrams per day.

  • Saturated Fat. Your intake of saturated fat should be less than 7% of your total daily calories.

  • Trans Fat. It is recommended that you either eliminate trans fat from your diet or keep it under 1% of your total daily calories.

  • Sugar. Most of us consume way more sugar than we should. Make a habit of checking the ingredient list of the foods you eat. If sugar is the first listed ingredient then you know that item is packed with sugar.

Look at the whole picture: A healthy diet consists of taking in a combination of fats, carbohydrates, fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals each day. Remember that eating too much of even healthy foods can lead to weight gain. All of the foods that you eat should fit together to form a well-balanced, calorie controlled diet.

The bottom line is that you should eat to live not live to eat in New Orleans….. Your body will thank you for it.

Women Working Out With Weights in New Orleans for Fat Loss

December 2, 2009

Women Working Out With Weights in New Orleans for Fat Loss

Have you always wanted to know more about how lifting weights can help you lose fat, but perhaps you weren’t quite sure where to start?new-orleans-healthy-woman

Not a problem! I will be more than happy to assist you with that.

Women working out with weights have a huge fat loss advantage over women who don’t lift weights.

The reason for this is that working out with weights helps give your metabolism a major boost.real_women_lift_weights_Doing just cardiovascular exercise is certainly better than nothing. However, doing both cardio and lifting weights is definitely a winning combination for New Orleans fat loss.

Working out with weights in particular really helps to get rid of fat. This particular type of exercise will transform your body like nothing else can. Many women are reluctant to work out weight weights.

This is because they’re afraid that they’ll develop these huge, bulky muscles and start looking all manly.
However, please rest assured that there is no need to worry about that. When women lift weights, unless they’re lifting extremely heavy weights, they’re definitely not going to get all big and bulky.
bigstockphoto_checking_diet_results_9703981

Instead, women typically experience fat loss along with nice, sleek muscle tone.

Getting started with a strength training regime may seem a little overwhelming if you’re new to it. However, this is easier than you might think. If you’re a woman that is brand new to working out with weights, I’d suggest starting out with 5 pound plastic neoprene dumbbells. Those aren’t too heavy too be uncomfortable, yet they are heavy enough to give you a good workout.

Once you get comfortable with the 5 pound dumbbells, you may want to gradually progress to using 8 or even 10 pound dumbbells.
This will continue to challenge your muscles which will enable you to continue seeing great results. In addition to using dumbbells,
I’d like to encourage you to do some Full body and core strength training exercises as well. Abdominal crunches, Planks, Push ups, Lunges and Squats are just a few examples of this.

If you are trying to get the most out of your workouts, then I suggest doing full body workouts like we do in my New Orleans Boot Camps.

We like to work each major muscle groups three to five days days a week in Boot Camp to get Maximum Results!

pushup-women

For example, below is a schedule that will allow you to get a full body workout 3 days a week by working all Major muscle groups directly and indirectly.

  • Monday: You might decide to do Upper body strength training with dumbbells with some heavy cardio for the legs.

  • Wednesday: Focus on Lower and Upper body strength Training mixed in with light cardio.

  • Friday: You can focus on Lower body strength training and core/stomach with some added cardio in between

As you can see, we strategically sprinkled in the cardio with each workout so we can give certain muscle groups rest from the strength training but still give the body the benefit of a full body workout because we are still working out those muscle groups with the cardio.

In Closing, once you grasp this concept you will see that it pretty simple to come up with endless combinations of workouts to use for accelerated fat loss.

However, some people rather leave it up to me and my New Orleans boot camps where we do a different workout each day and actually pay you to lose inches and pounds !
